Genshin Impact 1.6 Update sails into summer, here's what to expect

Summer is almost here, and the cute crew of Genshin Impact is gearing up for tons of fun! The Genshin Impact 1.6 update, releasing on June 9th, adds a bunch of new features and events.

In this update, you’ll have a bunch of summer-themed additions to enjoy, along with water games and new outfits to match the season. The addition of skins, a long-requested feature by fans, allows you to change some of your favourite character’s costumes by paying for them with Genesis Crystals, a purchasable currency in-game. The first ones available - as shown off in the update preview - are Jean’s ‘Sea Breeze Dandelion’ and Barbara’s ‘Summertime Sparkle.’

Barbara has a special event during the summer fun called the Echoing Tales event. If you collect enough Echoing Conches during the event, you can trade them in for her outfit for free, along with some other items.

New Character - Kazuha

Kaedehara Kazuha is a new Genshin Impact character who is a fugitive running from the Inazuma Shogunate who uses Anemo with his sword to manipulate the wind, which lifts himself, objects, and enemies in the area high into the air and then he comes crashing down on them in a devastating attack. He will be available along with Klee in Event Wishes.

Kazuha also stars in the latest Archon Quest, where you learn more details about the mysterious nation of Inazuma and Kazuha serves as your guide there. It seems like it will take place in the middle of a raging tempest storm during your journey, so there’s a lot of danger involved, for sure!

Midsummer Island Adventure - mini-games

Explore a new set of mysterious islands, complete challenges, and collect Shiny Flotsam and Mini “Harpastum” to earn exclusive rewards. Getting out to a remote island would normally be no sweat for a Cryo character, but to make things easier, you can summon a Waverider boat at specific waypoints to sail in style.

Not only does this boat jettison you quickly over the waves, but it can also help you solve puzzles and find treasures on the archipelago. Your cannon onboard can do some damage to enemies and is used in some of the quests, as well! Races and other challenges with the Waverider look to be tons of fun!

Beyond that, there’s Kaboomball Kombat, which is a challenge where you reflect kaboomballs back at a Dodofortress to do damage. You receive enigma gears after defeating it, which can then be exchanged for special rewards. Shazamfruit appears at random to provide you with special effects to help you to do your best and defeat the Dodofortresses faster.

New Monster - Maguu Kenki

A samurai humanoid from another nation who wields a blade that can deliver both cryo and anemo damage once he’s reduced to a certain HP. When that happens, it will enter a phantom phase and multiple phantoms will coordinate their attacks against you as well, as Maguu Kenki’s attacks will convert to Anemo and the phantoms will do both Cryo and Anemo DMG, which can deliver some serious Swirl reactions in their wake.

Beyond the events, there’s some additional quality of life improvements to note in version 1.6. Easily one of the best updates is the change for the Adventurer Handbook, as it will now automatically navigate you to the next enemy once the one you are hunting is defeated. Domains will also show detailed information about the enemies within and specific rules for that particular domain, as well.

Genshin Impact is available now on the App Store and Google Play. It’s a free-to-play title with in-app purchases.
