'Try and buy' in place for Gameloft Android HD games
Keeping in with tradition
In keeping with the publisher's current boycott of the Android Market, Gameloft has launched a new way to distribute games from its website by using a ‘try and buy’ system.
The new system involves registering your number onto the site to get a download link, and then playing a free trial of your chosen game with the option to buy the full title in-app. Payment for the game is then added on to your monthly bill.
This move looks to improve on a lot of problems found with the old system, such as games not being fully downloaded, restrictions on re-downloading games, and difficulties with getting game updates.
This isn’t the first time Gameloft has tried to effectively remove its games from the Android Market. A while ago, games could only be bought using a credit card via the publisher's website and then downloaded via a link sent to your phone.
As you can probably guess, the manoeuvre didn’t go down so well and Gameloft no longer accepts credit-card payments on the site.
There are still a few Gameloft games available for download on the Android Market, but these are few and far between.
