Game of Dice
, out right now on iOS and Android, is a Monopoly-inspired board game in which you roll dice and work your way around a multi-tiled board, taking property and bankrupting opposing players.

It's not your average board game though, and combines elements from a variety of different genres. Take the skill cards for example. There are 65 of these and they offer game-changing abilities to help you gain - or keep -the upper hand during a game.

You can also choose different characters to play as and dice to roll, which gives a welcome RPG aspect to the game.

We reached out to Seonghyeon Han, Project Director at JoyCity, to learn more about the unique aspects of Game of Dice, the challenges faced during development, and the plans for future updates.

What do you think Game of Dice offers that you can’t get from any other title on the App Store?

"It’s the mind blowing PvP matches where a player can either win or lose big with a use of a single skill card or a lucky / unlucky dice roll.

"For instance, it could be the last turn before the match is over, but you could turn the tide of the match with skill cards such as, Pursuit, Pull, Push, or Drag!

"This is something no other board games offer on the App Store."

What challenges did you face during development, and how did you overcome them?

"It was the rise of the learning curve for new players to Game of Dice due to the Skill Card feature.

"We put a lot of thought into how we could make things easier for our gamers, so that the use of skill cards wasn’t something of a hurdle, but something that could make the gameplay more fun.

"So the first step we took was the remove any ‘cost’ feature for using the skill cards, which was pretty much standard feature in card battle games."

Which part of Game of Dice are you personally the most proud of and why?

"I’m personally most proud of the unique game experience where each and every match you play gives you a different experience, unlike any other games where you just have to keep on replaying matches in order to win. This was made possible with luck on dice rolls and our main content, skill cards.

"I hope people who play the game agree with me that Game of Dice is a unique board game that everyone who loves them should try out."

Do you have anything planned in terms of future updates for Game of Dice and, if so, can you give us any details of what these might include?

"The updates will be focused on new maps with different gameplay. For example, there's a mystery mansion theme map where some blocks will have special features like giving or taking JOY (the in-game currency) to a random player.

"Other maps will provide a shorter game time, while others will be a lot more intense. And, of course, there will be new skill cards that go along with the new map themes."

Have you any plans to bring Game of Dice to any other mobile platforms, such as PC or Windows Phone?

"Releasing Game of Dice to other platforms, such as PC, Windows Phone, or even the Amazon Appstore is something we've had in mind since the early stages of development.

"I believe it’s just a matter of time Game of Dice moves to other platforms."

Game of Dice is available right now from the App Store [download] and Google Play [download].
