Samsung has announced that it will launch the highly anticipated successor to its Galaxy S III smartphone on March 14th at a special event in New York City.

According to a spokesperson for the South Korean tech giant, the company is holding the event in the US because it's been inundated with requests to do so from US-based mobile carriers.

"We introduced the Galaxy S III in London last year, and this time we changed the venue as we were bombarded with requests from US mobile carriers to unveil the Galaxy S4 in the country," JK Shin, Samsung's mobile division chief, said.

Samsung unveiled the original Galaxy S smartphone in the US, but chose to launch the Galaxy S II in Spain and the Galaxy S III in London.

The upcoming Galaxy S4 will purportedly boast a higher-resolution display, a better camera, and a faster quad-core processor than its predecessor.
