It's been another great week for mobile releases, with the much-awaited Telling Lies - from the mind of Her Story creator, Sam Barlow - finally making its way to release.

Its not just Telling Lies though, unexpected ports like Gris and high-profile mobile tie-ins like Gears Pop! have both gone live on app stores, giving us a truly amazing selection to pick from in this week's Games of the Week selection.

It goes without saying, but it was incredibly tough to whittle it down to the five greatest games released on mobile this week - but as ever we've managed to deliver.

Remember, if you're looking to check through some of our previous selections then you can always do that at our Games of The Week Hub, it's a great way to find games to fill out that empty storage space on your phone. Or, if you like your news in bitesize chunks, delivered straight to your palm then maybe follow us on Twitter.

Telling Lies

It's been a few years since Her Story launched on mobile, and we've been waiting for Sam Barlow's next masterpiece ever since. Telling Lies is the latest title tied to the award winning creator, and unlike the 2018 deviation, #Wargames, he's back on the unstructured-narrative format which we loved in Her Story.

Telling Lies has players sift through an NSA database to draw the connection between four different characters. We've not yet played through it, however perhaps the most compelling aspect of it all is that -unlike Her Story, where the interviewees were directly responding to somebody - in Telling Lies they are not aware of when they are being recorded.

Telling Lies is available now on the App Store.

2
Gris

People have been celebrating Gris' watercoloured beauty since the first trailer was showcased late last year. It wasn't just a beautiful experience however, it was a challenging platformer as we surmised with our Switch review - "Gris has some moments of platforming frustration, but its absolutely gorgeous world will soothe your nerves long enough to see it through".

Well, as of late last night it's now possible for iOS users to also get their hand on the stunning platformer. Devolver, who also recently released Witcheye for mobile, continued to oversee the publishing, and really seem to be making a lot of steps to bring more titles to iOS and Android users.

Gears Pop!

When it comes to odd couples, gritty, blood-soaked Gears of War and cute figuring series Funko Pop is certainly one of the strangest combinations. Take that combination and overlay it onto the Clash Royale genre and you've got a decent idea of what Gears Pop! is.

We'll be sure to have more information on Gears Pop! as the week goes on, but for now we know that it features a lot of series regulars as well as Xbox Live achievements. Unlike Clash Royale's towers, Gears Pop! revolves around holding ground for a duration of time, after that you can start deploying units further up the field.

4
Farm Punks

I really like Farm Punks. I first managed to download it when it was briefly listed on the store earlier in the year, and I've been growing fruit to roll down hill since. The gameplay loop is incredibly simple - plant trees, grow fruits, discard fruit or pluck it from the tree to send it rolling down the hill. Once rolling you've got to dodge objects, hit platforms and collect cogs. Runs are quick and easy, and while you might not land a good one for a while you'll be chipping away at fruit/vegetable objectives and saving up toward vehicle upgrades as you go.

Add to all of this that the artwork is absolutely fantastic and there's no ads (just microtransactions) and it is hard to see why anybody would uninstall Farm Punks after their first play.

Tombshaft

You might know Doinksoft from their recently released 'Meowtroidvania' Gato Roboto, but this week we are talking about their new release: Tombshaft. If you live diving into deadly temples as you race to the bottom to try to avoid both the collapsing structure and deadly foes then it's for you, and if you like the sound of doing that all while grabbing treasures then, well, it might just be your new favourite game.

Tombshaft is available now on the App Store, and word has it that it's coming to Android in the future.
