Futurama: Game of Drones - A decent match four puzzler and a great Futurama episode

Oh no, not another match three puzzler

Well, cool your jets and let's at least get our facts straight. This is actually a match four puzzler. And, as the name suggests, it's based on the longstanding and popular animated TV series, Futurama.

What difference does that make?

If you're referring to the difference between match three and match four, well, not a lot. But it does give you a little extra to think about. There's also something inherently more satisfying about matching together four things instead of three.

You're matching delivery drones together to ensure there are enough of them out delivering items. You have a set number of turns to match enough to finish a level.

The Futurama brand injection is absolutely fantastic. Make no mistake, you're basically playing an extended episode of the TV series here. There's a hilarious plot, some great pop culture references, and excellent writing that does justice to show.

I don't really care about Futurama

Right. Well, there's still a pretty great match four puzzler here. Though it starts simple - seriously, you'll breeze through the first few levels - the challenge does start ramping up as you begin to encounter new mechanics, and there are a lot of those.

Over the course of your adventure you'll have to help pizza boxes reach the bottom of the grid, clear it of unwanted debris, and defeat bosses - those are tough.

How does that all work?

Oh, the same as a usual level really, but you'll have to be tactical about where you're matching on the board instead of just matching all over the place.

When you're clearing the board of debris you'll want to stay close to the mess at all times or, at the very least, try and trigger a match in that area during your next few turns.

Boss fights are a little different. You can't match the regular drones here as they'll be used against you (literally). Instead, you have to focus on matching together battle drones who are capable of hurting the boss. That's when things get tricky.

Can you wrap this up please?

Sorry. Look, if you're really not into match three (or four) puzzlers, chances are Futurama: Game of Drones won't convince you otherwise.

If you're interested in the show you'll absolutely get a kick out of it though, as some smart writing and references do provide a few laughs.

There's also a fine match four puzzler here, that introduces a bunch of new mechanics at a decent rate to keep things fresh throughout. And, as an afterthought, it's a bit of a looker too.

Futurama: Game of Drones - A decent match four puzzler and a great Futurama episode

If you were looking for a new match something puzzler, Futurama: Game of Drones will fill that gap nicely. You'll also love it if you're a fan of the show
