Pop pills and solve puzzles to avenge your murdered parents in the upcoming, dark-as-tar Fran Bow
by Matthew Diener 2/8/2013
Product: Fran Bow
Developer: Killmonday Games
Format: Android, iPhone, iPad
Genre: Adventure
Stumbling upon the dismembered corpses of your parents is something that would test the mental mettle of any young child, but losing your cat on top of that? That's enough to land you in a mental institution!

And that's exactly the set of circumstances that happens to poor Fran Bow, the heroine of the upcoming game of the same name.

Part Twin Peaks with a bit of Alice in Wonderland and Year Walk mixed in, Fran Bow is described by its developers as being a 'story driven psychological horror adventure game' and - unsurprisingly, given Fran's circumstances - it takes place in an oppressive mental asylum.

And unlike some psychological games which claim to be dark, Fran Bow looks to be dark.

Playing as Fran, you'll need to pop prescription pills in self-administered doses to gaze into a terrible, alternative world full of hidden objects, puzzles, and grotesqueries.

Wracking our brains here at PG HQ, we think this might be the first mobile puzzle game to involve both dismembered parents and a pill-popping pre-teen, which is part of what helped Fran Bow catch our eye.

The intriguing 2D art style, somewhere between Edward Gorey and Tim Burton, didn't hurt either. It fits the mood of Fran Bow perfectly, and it's fit to give us nightmares.

Joystiq reports that Fran Bow turned to Indiegogo recently to wrap up a funding campaign and has an iOS, Android, PC, Mac, and Linux release planned for 2014.

There's also a possible Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8 release as well - so if this sounds like something you'd like to contribute to, watch the trailer below then head over to the Indiegogo page.
