Fortnite will in fact be launching independently on Android, bypassing Google Play

Earlier this week it was heavily suggested that Fortnite will be bypassing the Google Play store. Unlike apps on iOS, Android doesn't require you to sell apps through Google Play, so it'd make no sense for Epic Games to include a third party when it's not necessary.

Well, a press release today has confirmed that Fortnite will be coming to Android independently and won't be available to download on Google Play. Instead, you'll be able to download the Fortnite Installer from Epic Games' website, similar to playing on PC.

There are a few more details banging about the place at the moment, but Epic Games will have more to say on that later in the month. Either way, if you're worried about whether getting the game on Android will be trickier outside of Google Play, it'll no doubt be just as easy. Just remember your Epic accounts.

So far Fortnite's release date remains 'summer 2018', so hopefully there's not too much longer to wait.
