Fortnite is coming to Android, and it's bypassing Google Play. Say goodbye to easily downloading it straight onto your phone, then.

Instead, you're going to have to jump through some hoops to get it on your device - but we have an idea of how it's going to work, and what you'll need to do to make sure you can get playing straight away.

So ahead of Fortnite's release on Android, here's some steps you'll (probably) need to take to ensure you can get your hands on the game as soon as it throws itself the great Battle Bus in the Internet.

Make sure you've got enough space

We don't know for certain how big the Android APK will be, but based on the iOS version, it won't be that big - though you may still need to clear up some space first.

On iOS, Fortnite takes up just 142.1MB for the initial install. But there's near-constant updates and changes going on in the game, so you may need to free up some more space in preperation.

Either way, ensure you've got around 200MB free on your memory card or internal memory to make absolutely sure you'll be able to download the full thing as soon is it launches.

Download the installer from Epic's website

Since you can't get the game from Google Play or similar, you'll need to head onto Epic's website from your phone's mobile browser. Just do a search for Fortnite and you'll find it.

Ordinarily when you're sideloading games (downloading them from outside an app store), you'll need to allow unknown sources on your device, which leads you open to nasty viruses.

Not so for Fortnite it seems. According to Eurogamer, after downloading the APK you'll be prompted to allow permissions for that app alone to be installed, so you don't have to open your device up to every app in existence potentially being installed.

From there you'll have to wait for the installer to finish downloading the rest of the game before you can play, but you won't need to do anything particularly special otherwise.

Enjoy!

That's basically it! Updates will be pushed out to the game when you boot it up, so you don't need to do anything else on that side of things.
