GDC 2016: Walking War Robots meets Clash of Clans in Forge (working title)

Coming soon to iOS and Android

Summary News Review Screens Videos Articles Tips
Product: Forge (Working title) | Publisher: Winko Games | Genre: Strategy
For: Android   Also on: iPhone, iPad

Forge
is the working title of Winko Games's new build and battler that takes inspiration from Walking War Robots and Clash of Clans.

As you can expect, you'll build your own city full of resource producers, research facilities, and defensive buildings. Aside from the decent 3D visuals, you've seen this all before.

Where Forge differs is in its units and battle system. Rather than chuck out a bunch of barbarians and archers like in Clash of Clans, you'll build your own individual titan (basically robot) units out of parts.

At launch, there'll be 40 titans, but you'll have to unlock all of their parts before you can use them. These are earned via a gacha mechanic, and you can check out the blueprints for all titans at any point to see what you need to complete them.

There are three different types of titan: ranged, tank, and support, and you'll need to use them strategically in unison to successfully destroy an opponent's base.

You'll also find 12 pilots to choose from which provide your titan with skills. These help swing the battle in your favour.

Battling is very similar to Clash of Clans. You select a base to assault and then tactically place your units on the battlefield.

The difference here is that you can then take direct control of your units and strategically take down your opponent's defences, pausing at any moment to take stock of the battle.

Not only does this mean that you'll have a far greater level of control in combat than similar build and battlers, it also means you'll have to pay greater attention to where you place your defensive buildings in your base.

Forge is currently in soft-launch in The Netherlands and Philippines, but will launch globally on iOS around June 2016 with an Android version set to follow shortly after.
