Adam Atomic's Flappybalt is a combination of Flappy Bird and his own game Canabalt. Previously a PC-only game, Flappybalt is now available on iOS and Android for free.

Flappybalt was originally made during the Flappy Jam, which was held over a month ago and was designed to demonstrate support for Flappy Bird developer Dong Nguyen. Don't Move developer Steve Richey has since ported Flappybalt to mobile.

As such, Flappybalt takes the 'flap' mechanic from Flappy Bird, and uses the grey-scale art style of Canabalt. The actual gameplay is quite different from either of those games, though.

You tap the screen to instruct a bird to flap. Instead of moving through a series of pipes, though, you have to bounce off the walls on either side of the screen to score points.

The problem is that the walls have a panel of spikes in front of them.

Every time you touch a wall, the spike panel on the opposite wall will move up or down. So, you have to adjust the bird's height accordingly.

Flappybalt has the same addictive 'pull' as its inspiration, so you will keep going back for another go. It's not quite as difficult as Flappy Bird, mind. It could also do with some music and sound effects.

But, hey, it's free on the App Store [download] and Google Play [download], so you can't complain too much.
