Updated on March 12th, at 09:13: As well as hitting the App Store, First Strike is now live on the Google Play Store.

So, if you want to fire Android rockets from your pocket, head over there now and grab the game for £2.38 / $3.99 [buy].

Original story follows...

For how long do you think you could delay an imminent nuclear war? If you're me, you'd probably be the one starting it.

And it's much easier to start a war than try to calm things down in atomic holocaust sim First Strike, which has just gone live on the App Store in New Zealand.

The game sees you picking a nation and then spreading out across the globe, invading neighbouring territories, fortifying your cities, and making sure you've got plenty of cruise missiles on hand for when someone launches a strike at you.

Rocket man

You can research new technology that lets you fire your rockets farther, infiltrate the enemy's infrastructure, and protect yourself better for when the inevitable happens.

If that all sounds a bit grim and miserable, it's because nuclear war is no laughing matter. In fact, a quarter of the money the game makes will be donated to anti-nuclear proliferation charities.

First Strike should go live on the UK and US App Stores tonight. And if you fancy blowing up Germany with intercontinental nuclear weaponry, you'll have to stump up £2.49 / $3.99 to do so.
