Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition is finally headed to Switch this year
Now in HD, whatever that means
Chibi-style mobile remake of Final Fantasy XV, the appropriately-titled Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition, is making its way to Switch some time this year.
Now titled Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition HD, it'll be the same game as was already available on mobile, except it's on your Switch. And it'll probably ditch the episodic IAP model from the mobile release in favour of a full game purchase.
For those not in the know, FFXVPEHD (as we call it in the biz) features a cast of four Best Anime Boys setting off on a road trip that goes horribly wrong. Expect huge battles, RPG gubbins, and casual banter as they laze about in a car without wearing seatbelts like they've never heard of road safety.
Weirdly this new edition is already available on PS4 and Xbox One, which begs two questions - one, why not Switch on the same day, and two, why the hell are two consoles that can run the proper FFXV also getting the scaled-down edition?
That's not to say Pocket Edition is a bad game. We gave it our Silver Award on account of it being wonderful, but we couldn't for the life of us work out who it's actually for.
Ho hum. You can expect Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition HD to land on Switch later this year, or you can play the first episode for free on iOS and Android right now if you've got good enough gear.
