[Update] SNES classic Final Fantasy VI arrives on Android
Updated on January 15th, at 15:10: As it's now January 15th, the mobile remake of Final Fantasy VI is now available on Google Play [buy].

Despite what we said yesterday, it's available in the EU and the US. So, whoopee for that.

It will cost you Android players £10.99 / $15.99 to pick up this classic JRPG.

Original story follows...

Square Enix Europe took to Twitter to announce that the highly-anticipated mobile remake of Final Fantasy VI will arrive on Android this Wednesday, January 15.

A firestorm of tweets soon followed, and SE followed up their original comment by adding "No news on the iOS version of @FinalFantasy VI just yet, but we'll update you as soon as we find out!"

Meanwhile, North American fans of the Final Fantasy franchise appear to be out in the cold as there were no announcements regarding either the iOS or Android release stateside.

World of balance

Square originally released Final Fantasy VI for the Super Nintendo in 1994, and many critics regard it as the beginning of Final Fantasy's golden age.

Square Enix announced the mobile version of FFVI back in October, and noted that it would both look and play like the Silver Award-winning remake of Final Fantasy V - meaning, it'll feature updated graphics and enhancements to its battle systems.

We'll keep you updated when we know more about the iOS release in Europe or, well, any release in North America.
