Final Fantasy Brave Exvius continues its love of crossovers with an Octopath Traveler event

Final Fantasy Brave Exvius loves a crossover. During its 4 year existence, there's been some cool crossovers with NieR: Automata and some downright bizarre ones like pop icons Katy Perry and Ariana Grande. This time they've gone with a more conventional choice for a turn-based RPG by introducing characters from Octopath Traveler. It will be available from now until September 5th.

For those not familiar, Octopath Traveler was a turn-based RPG that came out last year on Switch. We reviewed it here and thought it was a fantastic game. Personally, it was one of my favourite games last year so to see it get some crossover love is great.

If you enjoy bad wordplay as much as I do, then this crossover should probably be called Quadropath Traveler because it only includes half of the eight main characters. Primrose, Olberic, Therion and Tressa are here to represent their game. Interestingly, they didn't choose Ophelia as a more obvious support character, though I'm pleased they gave Tressa the nod instead.

They will be available to summon through a limited-time banner, as event characters often are. There will also be a raid boss to challenge to earn raid coins, which can be spent on various rewards. That boss is Gaston who served as leader of the Brigands in Olberic's story. He doesn't fight alone here though so you'll also do battle with his underlings.

From August 30th there will also be a Trial Boss and they've chosen a fairly odd one. The boss will be the Blotted Viper, who appeared as the first boss in Alfyn's story. Alfyn is another of the main characters who wasn't chosen to be in this event, which makes choosing one of his bosses a weird decision. I guess big snakes are just cool.

Final Fantasy Brave Exvius is available on the App Store and Google Play. It's a free-to-play game with in-app purchases.
