Game Name: Fast & Furious 6: The Game | Developer: Exploding Barrel Games | Publisher: Kabam | Format: Android, iPhone, iPad | Genre: Action, Film/ TV tie- in, Racing
Having released two games based on major film licences (The Hobbit: Kingdoms of Middle Earth and The Godfather: Five Families), California-based company Kabam has stepped it up another gear by announcing it will publish a tie-in mobile game for forthcoming action flick Fast & Furious 6.

We don't know much about the gameplay as yet, but it's safe to assume that this free-to-play title will feature high-octane racing action and many of the characters from the upcoming Universal Pictures movie.

Just like its predecessor, then, really.

Unlike its predecessor, though, Fast & Furious 6 for mobile (Kabam hasn't officially confirmed the target platforms, but we reckon iOS and Android petrolheads should ready themselves now) won't be developed by Gameloft.

Instead, Kabam's newly acquired Exploding Barrel Games studio will be on dev duties for the next instalment in the Fast and the Furious game series.

Pedal to the metal

"The Fast and the Furious series is one of the hottest movie and mobile gaming franchises of all time," Andrew Sheppard, president of Kabam Studios, said.

"Kabam is pedal down, blending the art of game design and the science of free-to-play distribution to make this game a thrill for street racing fans around the world."

What's interesting is that neither Kabam nor Exploding Barrel has made a racing game before. They do, however, have designers on board who have worked on AAA racing games like Need for Speed, so Fast & Furious 6 should be in safe hands.

Vin Diesel and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson will speed into cinemas in Fast & Furious 6 on May 24th, so expect to see the mobile game spin-off accelerate onto app stores around that time.
