UPDATE: EA Mobile has told us that the Flexion site is an old trial page initially designed for distributing Android apps for the UK market. It will not be put into operation, and will be soon be closed to avoid any confusion in the future.

Original story follows:

A Google search has revealed that EA Mobile has set up - what looks to be - a placeholder site for a new Android Market competitor.

The EA Flexion Store is empty right now, but does have a Help and About page that talks of “New games and offers” being added over time.

Naturally, this may be a region-locked site, and may not even be intended for European or American audiences, but we’re surprised that there’s little mention of the place anywhere else on the web if this is the case.

Flexible Flexion

For the record, Flexion is mobile games and app distribution system that's live in over 60 countries, with over 25 million users. It's currently expanding fast in developing markets such as India and Brazil.

EA selling games outside of the Android Market wouldn’t come as too much of a surprise, if true, given that its close rival Gameloft has been doing so for quite some time via its own portal.

A new dedicated Android store may also explain why EA has been relatively quiet these last few months when it comes to Android Market releases.
