Do you remember when point and click adventures were funny? Back before they were sour-faced tear-jerk dramas with moral decisions and zombies?

Portuguese dev Nerd Monkeys certainly does, as pixel art adventure Detective Case and Clown Bot in: Murder in the Hotel Lisbon is basically a love letter to chucklesome comedy PnCs of the 80s and 90s.

This one stars the world's worst detective and his joke-telling robot sidekick, as they try to unravel a ridiculous mystery: the case of the man who committed suicide by stabbing himself in the back 14 times while peacefully drinking coffee.

You'll look for clues, interview witnesses, take on side quests, solve puzzles, and look out for zany plot twists you try to figure out exactly what happened.

Clown Bot

Some of the humour might be lost in translation, but it's a charming game with lots of lovely touches, like the option to request a joke from Clown Bot, and a silhouetted onscreen audience that claps and laughs at opportune moments.

The game came out on PC last year to positive reviews, and is due on iOS and Android on January 22nd. Hotel Lisbon will cost £2.29 / $2.99.
