E3 2018 - Command & Conquer: Rivals has been revealed for mobile and everyone hates it

Ooft. It's always a bad sign when the first big mobile game of E3 is one that manages to annoy basically everyone on the Internet, but EA managed it with Command & Conquer: Rivals.

If you've not seen it, it's a 1v1 real-time multiplayer strategy game, with two people dropping units into a small battlefield to control specific tiles and destroy their opponent's base.

It doesn't actually look that bad, when all's said and done. There looks to be a good variety of units on show, and you have direct control over them after dropping into battle, which offers a bit more strategy than the usual mobile offerings.

But, as is usually the case when a major franchise disappears for years and makes a comeback as a mobile game, Twitter was absolutely furious.

Although, as with all things in this world, some people did appear to be willing to give Rivals a chance before making their judgement.

Meanwhile, folks have already got their hands on the game through the early alpha, and they don't hate it. Which is good!

We're willing to give Command & Conquer: Rivals a shot before we pass judgement, of course. We're not out at E3 this year, but rest assured that we're trying to get our hands on the game so we can pass our own verdict, rather than listen to the masses of angry voices.

If you're looking for a chance to try out the early alpha, you can pre-register for the game on Google Play, which puts you in the running for access. This is only available for folks in the US and Canada, however.

Everyone else will have to wait until later this year when Command & Conquer: Rivals launches on iOS and Android. Unless EA cancel it after all the hate, of course...
