Why rob a boring present day bank when you can go back in time and steal from the mafia, Egyptian tombs, and anywhere else that takes your fancy?

Chrono&Cash is the story of Cash and his robot sidekick Chrono, who are looking to bag as much cash as possible before the rightful owners come a-wandering.

It's a retro arena platformer that's a little too simplistic for its own good, with too few challenges to keep you playing beyond about an hour.

Take this to the bank

Each level contains a series of platforms, each of which has valuables residing on it such as bags of money or Pharoah death masks. Your job is to grab all the collectibles, move on to the next level, and repeat.

All the while there are enemies surging out of various doors around the level. These baddies romp along at a fair pace, and if one of them touches you you're a life down.

Cash can jump, double-jump. and nothing more, so it's all about dodging and collecting as quickly and smoothly as possible. As the levels build up so too do the enemies, and soon the going gets really tough.

Chrono & Cash features lots of attention to detail. You've got Xperia Play support, the ability to play in both landscape and portrait, and unlockable disguises as you get further into the game.

Chronic

The underlying issue with the game is that there really isn't much to it, and nor is there much to see and do.

In an attempt to keep the simple action fresh, there are challenges that ask you to collect a certain number of items or get a high score, and offer score multipliers in return.

These add a little incentive to play, but eventually they end up emphasising just how little there is to actually do.

Chrono&Cash feels like it should be just one mode in a bigger game. Those looking for a retro gaming fix may find enough to enjoy here, but the average mobile gamer will exhaust the game's pleasures fairly quickly.

Chrono&Cash

The ability to rewrite history isn't enough to save Chrono&Cash from mediocrity
