Chilie is a quirky free-to-play brain training adventure for iOS and Android
By Chris Priestman 03 April 2014
Game Name: Chilie | Developer: Yves Mesnard | Format: Android, iPhone, iPad | Genre: Adventure, Brain training
There's no doubt about it: Chilie is one gorgeous game.

It has slick animation and is easy on the eyes. To look at it, you'd never guess it's a brain training adventure game. And the fact it makes me do basic maths is probably my biggest gripe about it.

In between animated scenes, you have to create a target number using addition, multiplication, and subtraction. When you're not doing this, you have to look out for and tap on maths elements like '+10' and 'x2' to add them to your repertoire.

There are also quick time events in which you have to swipe arrows before a timer runs out. Strangely, the game is very specific about where you can swipe. So, yes, watch out for that.

I'm enjoying Chilie, but I'd much rather it was a more traditional adventure game. You see, the maths challenges and quick time events feel like they're interrupting a quirky adventure.

Speaking of which, Chilie follows a 6-year-old girl that lives with her guardian in a mobile home, travelling across a fictional take on China.

Chilie (the girl) enjoys hide-and-seek, and would like to drive the van. Yup, she's boisterous and very loud.

It's a strange game, sure. Given it's free, though, it's well worth a look if you're curious. It probably won't be for for everyone, mind.

You can download Chilie for iOS [download] and Android [download] for free right now. There are IAPs for extra continues.
