Chaos Rings refuses to run on rooted Android devices

Square Enix has pledged to update the Android version of Chaos Rings so that it can run on rooted handsets.

Following the JRPG's Android debut late last week, Chaos Ring's Google Play listing has been inundated with 1-star reviews from customers with rooted Android devices.

It seems that 'droid users attempting to boot up Chaos Rings on a rooted device will find that the app force closes on the launch screen.

Unsurprisingly, this has prompted many customers to ask why there was no disclaimer or warning in the app's description. After all, £8.99 / $12.99 is a lot to spend on any mobile game, especially one which doesn't work.

Of course, Square Enix could only have warned its customers if it had foreknowledge of the compatibility issue - something which some XDA developers forum members believe it may have had.

Thankfully, Square Enix has responded to the issue, releasing the following statement:

"We are aware of the issue affecting Android users who attempt to download Chaos Rings with rooted devices. We are currently working towards applying an update that will grant those players access to the game and we expect this update to go live sometime next week."

Whether this was an honest mistake on the developer's part or an ill-advised effort to curb piracy, it sounds like all Android users will soon be able to enjoy Chaos Rings, regardless of their user privileges.
