Call of Duty Mobile targets 60 fps on Android

As first reported by our sister site Pocketgamer.biz, the upcoming Call of Duty Mobile targets 57 to 60 fps on Android devices. The news arrived during Unite Copenhagen 2019, where Samsung Electronics engineer Jungwoo Kim and gamedev engineer Anton Syniavskyi discussed the journey of bringing Activision’s FPS series to mobile.

This impressive feat was achieved due to the team’s decision to use the Vulkan graphics standard from Khronos. Vulkan is basically an up-to-date API which is highly optimised for most mobile and streaming platforms. Pocketgamer.biz confirms that “features such as a single scratch buffer, threaded present, direct buffer access and render pass load/store all contribute to the adaptive performance”.

Call of Duty Mobile is set to launch for iOS and Android next Tuesday, October 1st. It features the usual assortment of competitive multiplayer modes (TDM, S&D, Gun Game, etc), as well as a 100-player battle royale.

It brings together maps and weapons from across the acclaimed series’ history, from the Black Ops era to Modern Warfare. You can also expect to see plenty of returning characters, including John “Soap” MacTavish, Simon “Ghost” Riley, and Alec “Remember the Numbers” Mason.

In terms of the core FPS action, it’s all very reminiscent of the earlier boots-on-the-ground COD games. You’ll work to unlock new Operators, all of which come with their own skills and scorestreaks. The battle royale mode boasts a large map made up of fan-favourite locales from COD games of yore, with matches playing out across land, sea, and air.

If you want to get in as soon as the game goes live, you can pre-register now for Call of Duty Mobile over on both the App Store and Google Play.
