Boulder Dash - 30th Anniversary lets you punch dirt in cute 3D on iOS and Android

Peter Liepa and Chris Gray have released a freemium remake of their classic arcade dirt-puncher Boulder Dash for its 30th anniversary.

Aptly named Boulder Dash - 30th Anniversary, this iOS and Android game is a cuter, less Atari-crunchy iteration of the arcade game's original formula. As you'd expect, really.

The dirt is still brown, the boulders still fall from overhead to crush whatever lies beneath, but this Boulder Dash is smoother and somehow more friendly. Maybe it's the 3D?

Try telling that to the butterflies that get mercilessly crushed by boulders in the game's trailer, though. I don't think they'd agree.

Yep, it's still packs the same ruthless, unforgiving challenge as the original game, which is all-important. You need to move at speed, collecting gems, and reach the exit intact.

Boulder Dash - 30th Anniversary has over 200 new levels, more than 10 unique worlds, and nine playable characters.

It's free and ad-supported, but has IAPs to turn the ads off, as well as pretty much every collectible resource in the game.

You can download Boulder Dash - 30th Anniversary for free on the App Store [download] and Google Play [download] right now.
