The secret to making a tap feel good in a touchscreen game is to overstate the action.

If the tap shoots a gun make it go BOOM. If it pops a puzzle piece in make it CLICK. That's how you manufacture satisfying feedback.

The creator of Boom Dots clearly knows about this. As each time you tap the screen to make your blob dash, it EXPLODES upon impact.

The idea is to ensure that your blob collides with the circles that oscillate across the screen to score a point. It's a game of timing. As such, if you time it perfect you get a bigger collision and extra points.

On the other hand, if your blob misses the circle then it speeds right into a wall of spikes. And dies.

Getting the timing right is almost as dangerous. As with each explosive impact you get into a rhythm, making you want to chain together the HITs.

But if you get carried away you'll miss the changes in timing that are required to succeed.

Making it harder to turn away from Boom Dots are the challenges you're given each attempt. It starts off with scoring a single point, but promotes you to scoring five, then ten, then getting two perfects, and so on.

It's a compelling arcade game that is played with a single tap. It's only booms and colour changes. But it's enough to pull you in.

You can download Boom Dots for free on Android. It's supported by ads.

It'll also be coming to iOS on April 2nd.
