Quantic Dream's David Cage has revealed that there will be a smartphone and tablet companion app for upcoming PS3 title Beyond: Two Souls, which stars Elliot Page and Willem Dafoe.

Said companion app will be called Beyond Touch. It will enable you to control the game with a touchscreen interface.

In Beyond Touch, you will be presented with a blank screen. You get to slide a finger around to control either Jodi Holmes or Aiden, the entity that's attached to her. It'll work in single-player and co-op mode.

The game will automatically switch to Easy mode when it 'detects' a touchscreen controller is in use. This doesn't exactly fill you with hope regarding the responsiveness of the scheme.

Turn the Page by swiping the screen

According to Cage, this touchscreen feature represents an attempt by the Beyond: Two Souls game maker to get casual fans interested in the title.

While core gamers are used to the DualShock controller, the simplified smartphone controls lower the barrier for entry to so-called non-gamers.

The Beyond Touch app will be available on iOS and Android. It should be out at around the same time as Beyond: Two Souls debuts. Early October, in other words.
