Best new iOS and Android games of the week: August 6

Each week we like to run through the mobile games we've been enjoying the most over the past seven days.

This week sees the return of a much beloved developer in Tiny Touch Tales, as well as the arrival of a fine midcore strategy game (starring potatoes, no less).

Elsewhere, you wait ages for a leftfield triangle-shifting puzzler and two come along in quick succession. If you dug Yankai's Peak but found it a little intimidating, we have just the game for you.

Tiny Touch Tales has a knack of taking the classic card game of Solitaire and twisting it into brilliant new shapes, all with a distinctive art style. See Card Crawl and Card Thief for examples. Now you can add Miracle Merchant to that list.

This is an accessible strategy game all about a potato running a weapon shop. Our trusty spud must buy materials, make an assortment of deadly weapons, then sell them on to heroes for a tasty profit. It looks lovely, it's smart, and it's pretty darned original.

If you blasted through Yankai's Peak and are still thirsting for more triangle-shifting puzzling, Neo Angle might be worth a go. It isn't going to pose the same intense challenge, but it's a well-oiled puzzler that offers up the odd new idea.

Train up fantasy critters to battle other players in this Pokemon-meets-freemium-battler game. There's nothing revolutionary to Warpets, but it has an enjoyably snappy turn-based battle system and solid presentation.

We weren't exactly bowled over by the original Tiny Defense, but this sequel is a much more polished and varied affair. It's still a casual take on tower defence though, as you fend off waves of enemies from a side-on perspective
