No game can beat The Room for mobile puzzling. This gorgeous game about opening intricate puzzle boxes feels superb on the touchscreen, and the conundrums are astonishingly well designed. You'll have to wait to the new year for part three on Android, but the first two games should keep you busy until then.

Previously, Hitman Go turned the stealth action game into a tabletop puzzler. This one does the same to Tomb Raider, and the result is tremendous. Here, Lara, giant snakes, and rolling boulders all shift about the map in chunky choreographed moves, creating a terrific puzzle game that's filled with ideas and content.

RGB Express might pay a debt of gratitude to the Canadian classic Trainyard. But this box-moving management game has plenty of ideas of its own. Each level has you laying down roadways to guide delivery trucks to their destination - something that's way harder than this makes it sound.

So Swampy the Alligator never quite managed the super stardom of Mickey Mouse. Nevermind: anyone who's played his game will tell you he's brilliant. This puzzler is all about digging through dirt to redirect water to Swampy's shower. Expect a bracing new innovation every few levels.
