The 25 best fighting games on Android

25 beat-'em-ups to fill your Android collection
Product: Best Android games | Publisher: Steel Media Ltd | Format: Android
Updated February 27, 2018: New entries added

Even the most civilised, urbane, latte-sipping pacifist likes a good fighting game. Beating the excrement out of pixels is the ideal consequence-free way to let off steam.

That's not to suggest that all mobile beat-'em-ups are the virtual knuckle draggers of course. Some of them are pretty darned thoughtful. The following list contains scrolling brawlers, technical one-on-one scrappers, fantasy hack-and-slashers, and strategic simulators.

Here, then, is a list of the 25 best fighting games on Android. We'll fight anyone who disagrees with us. Virtually, of course.

#1 Skullgirls

Product: SkullgirlsFormats: iPhone, iPad

The name and publisher might have changed, but following its relaunch Skullgirls remains one of the most thoughtful console game reworkings on mobile. The graphics are stunning, the touch controls work brilliantly, and combat is fast and fluid.

#2 Beat Street

Product: Beat StreetFormats: iPhone, iPadPublisher: Lucky Kat StudiosGenres: Fighting

Beat Street
Beat-'em-ups don't need to be complex multi-button affairs. Beat Street shows you how to get that old-school scrolling brawler feel with just a single control input - and it plays great.

#3 Punch Quest

Product: Punch QuestFormats: Android, iPhone, iPadDeveloper: RocketCat GamesGenres: Arcade, Fighting

Punch Quest
Punch Quest imbues the tired old autorunner with a hefty slice of classic side-scrolling beat-'em-up action, and the results are stunning.

#4 The Executive

Product: The ExecutiveFormats: Android, iPhone, iPadPublisher: Riverman MediaGenres: Fighting

The Executive
A loud and brash brawler for the touchscreen generation, with more depth than you might expect.

#5 Punch Club

Product: Punch ClubFormats: Android, iPhone, iPadDeveloper: Lazy Bear GamesPublisher: tinyBuild GamesGenres: Simulation, Sports, Strategy

Punch Club
What's this? A fighting game in which you don't actually fight? Punch Club instead asks you to train up an MMA fighter and guide him to greatness.

#6 EA Sports UFC

Product: EA Sports UFCFormats: Android, iPhone, iPadPublisher: EA Mobile

EA Sports UFC
UFC is possibly the most brutal professional sport in the world, and EA Sports UFC successfully captures the hard-hitting action with its swipe-based combat.

#7 Taekwondo Game Global Tournament

Product: Taekwondo Game Global TournamentFormats: Android, iPhone, iPadDeveloper: Hello ThereGenres: Arcade, Fighting, Simulation

Taekwondo Game Global Tournament
The name doesn't quite say it all - Taekwondo Game is a finely poised one-on-one fighter where timing and strategy takes precedent over button mashing and aggression.

#8 Real Boxing 2

Product: Real Boxing 2Formats: Android, iPhone, iPadPublisher: Vivid GamesGenres: Fighting, Sports

Real Boxing 2
Real Boxing 2's fights are intuitive, tactical, and incredibly handsome - and it even has the Rocky license to add an extra layer of cinematic glamour.

#9 Marvel Contest of Champions

Product: Marvel Contest of ChampionsFormats: Android, iPhone, iPadPublisher: Marvel EntertainmentGenres: Card battler, Fighting, Film/TV tie-in, Multiplayer

Marvel Contest of Champions
The screen-tapping fights themselves are a little simplistic, but Marvel Contest of Champions lets you pitch all your favourite Marvel heroes against each other in beautifully rendered one-on-one fights.

#10 Super Samurai Rampage

Product: Super Samurai RampageFormats: iPhone, iPadPublisher: Brackish Games

Super Samurai Rampage
Super Samurai Rampage's brand of action is so slick and friction-free, you can almost forget what a brutal hack-and-slasher it is. Swipe to dash and slice, leaving a trail of claret in your wake.

#11 King of Fighters '98

Product: King of Fighters '98Formats: Android, iPhone, iPadPublisher: SNK PlaymoreGenres: Arcade, Fighting, Retro

King of Fighters '98
Street Fighter won the popular vote back in the '90s, but beat-'em-up fans will tell you that King of Fighters has always been its equal. This '98 version is like a greatest hits package of the series to that point, so is a fine representation of a golden era for fighting games.

#12 The King Of Fighters-A 2012

Product: The King Of Fighters-A 2012Formats: AndroidPublisher: SNK PlaymoreGenres: Fighting

The King Of Fighters-A 2012
Want to see what KoF has become since its '90s heyday? Check out The King of Fighters-A 2012, a mobile conversion of one of the best arcade and console fighting games of 2010.

#13 Dan the Man

Product: Dan the ManFormats: Android, iPhone, iPadPublisher: Halfbrick StudiosGenres: Fighting, Film/TV tie-in, Platform

Dan the Man
Dan the Man is a slick tribute to the action platformers of the early '90s, but with a steadily expanding range of hand-to-hand combat moves at your disposal.

#14 Shadow Fight 3

Product: Shadow Fight 3Formats: Android, iPhone, iPadPublisher: NekkiGenres: Action, Fighting

#16 WWE Immortals

Product: WWE ImmortalsFormats: Android, iPhone, iPadPublisher: NetherRealm StudiosGenres: Fighting, Sports

WWE Immortals
WWE Immortals is more like Mortal Kombat than any wrestling game you've ever played, but it's an accomplished effort all the same.

#17 Wrassling

Product: WrasslingFormats: Android, iPhone, iPadDeveloper: Colin LaneGenres: Fighting, Sports

Riotously silly and with a simplistic yet unpredictable combat system, Wrassling doesn't have the kind of characteristics you'd expect from a good fighting game, but it most definitely is one.

#18 Beatdown!

Product: Beatdown!Formats: iPhone, iPadDeveloper: Ravenous GamesPublisher: Ravenous GamesGenres: Action, Fighting, Retro

Beatdown is a classic beat-'em-up from the team behind the Random Heroes and League of Evil games, and it's been put together with characteristic charm and conviction.

#19 Fist of Awesome

Product: Fist of AwesomeFormats: Android, iPhone, iPad, Ouya, SteamPublisher: I Fight BearsGenres: Fighting

Fist of Awesome
A very accomplished ode to the 16-bit brawler that allows you to fight stripper bears. Yes, you read that right.

#20 Garou: Mark of the Wolves

Product: Garou: Mark of the WolvesFormats: Android, iPhone, iPadPublisher: SNK PlaymoreGenres: Fighting, Retro

Garou: Mark of the Wolves
Garou is an imperfect conversion of a truly excellent 2D one-on-one beat-'em-up. Master those unwieldy virtual controls, though, and you'll be in heaven.

#21 Shurado

Product: ShuradoFormats: iPhone, iPadPublisher: GanbarionGenres: Fighting

Shurado is a third person weapons-based brawler in the mould of Infinity Blade, but with a simpler combat system and a Dark Souls-esque grim Eastern-fantasy setting. It sure is pretty.

#22 Karateka Classic

Product: Karateka ClassicFormats: Android, iPhone, iPadDeveloper: Liquid EntertainmentGenres: Fighting

Karateka Classic
Want to see what beat-'em-ups were like in the '80s? Well, most of them looked like Karateka. But they didn't play as well, as this faithful mobile conversion goes to show.

#23 Prizefighters

Product: PrizefightersFormats: iPhone, iPadGenres: Fighting

Essentially a mobile take on Nintendo's Punch-Out series, Prizefighters offers you an intuitive, cartoony brand of over-the-shoulder boxing.

#24 Big Action Mega Fight!

Product: Big Action Mega Fight!Formats: Android, iPhone, iPadDeveloper: Double StallionPublisher: Execution LabsGenres: Action

Big Action Mega Fight!
The name says it all, really. This is a classic scrolling beat-'em-up that tips its hat to the arcade classics of old while keeping its tongue firmly in its cheek.

#25 Tekken

Product: TekkenFormats: Android, iPhonePublisher: Bandai NamcoGenres: Fighting

With the latest attempt to make Tekken work on mobile, Namco has turned to Marvel's Contest of Champions for inspiration. The result is a fluid brawler that perhaps wisely trades a fair amount of depth in favour of accessibility.
