Battlefield Mobile gets cancelled ahead of the planned release this year

Despite not even being officially released in any capacity outside of a few tightly closed beta test phases, the mobile port of popular FPS series Battlefield, appropriately titled Battlefield Mobile, has been cancelled. EA announced this alongside the closure of the less-than-a-year-old Apex Mobile, so it seems like they’re rotating away from the mobile platform to focus on other things. Regardless, it’s a bit of a bummer we didn’t even get to try this one out ourselves before it got canned.

Battlefield is a widely successful franchise, with even the most recent entry getting a bit of a resurgence after a tough launch, so the prospect of bringing it to mobile devices seemed both profitable and generally quite a good idea for those of us without the means to play it on consoles or PC. Unfortunately, despite the beta tests seeming mostly well received, we won’t get that chance, at least for the foreseeable future.

It’s never good news to hear such an anticipated release get canned, especially when it’s paired with the shutdown of one of the most popular battle royales on mobile too. It’s tough to say what the exact reason for this bad pair of news is, so all we can really do is speculate.

Despite the news, EA has assured that it is “committed to unlocking Battlefield’s enormous potential”, so I’d say that it’s not impossible we see another stab taken at bringing it to mobile. Unfortunately, that’s not in the cards for now at least, but I suppose we can take some solace in knowing that Warzone Mobile is still on the way, so that should sate most FPS fans looking for the best of the best on mobile.

Until then, we’ll just have to wait to hear more in terms of Battlefield.
