Asus Transformer Pad Infinity landing in UK on August 31st for £599.99

Asus evidentally knows what it means to 'strike while the iron's hot'. Hot on the heels of the incredibly popular Google Nexus 7, the Taiwanese manufacturer has revealed UK launch details for its 10-inch Transformer Pad Infinity.

The Asus Transformer Pad Infinity (nope, still doesn't trip off the tongue) is already available in the US and certain parts of Europe, but now UK punters know when they can get their hands on it - and how much they'll have to pay for the privilege.

Put August 31st in your diary, then, for that's when the Transformer Pad Infinity will be launched in the UK. If you're not willing to stump up £599.99 for a top-end Android tablet, though, you'd better scribble that date out.

That's quite a hefty fee when you consider the new iPad starts from £200 less, and that the 8GB version of the aforementioned Asus-built Nexus 7 costs a mere £159.

It's possible that £599.99 is the price for the 64GB model of the Transformer Pad Infinity, in which case it's only around £50 more expensive than its iPad equivalent. Some reports are suggesting that this is for the 32GB model, mind, which would be bit slightly more troubling.

Still, for that money, you get an impressively specced Android 4.0 tablet. It comes with a 1920x1200 10.1-inch Super-IPS+ display - which isn't quite as sharp as the new iPad's Retina display, but it's not too far off.

You also get a Tegra 3 quad-core processor clocked at 1.6GHz, 1GB of RAM, and - potentially the clincher - a keyboard dock accessory that turns your Transformer Pad Infinity into a netbook.

As we reported earlier in the week, Asus has confirmed that the Transformer Pad Infinity will be getting Android 4.1 (a.k.a. Jelly Bean) "in the coming months."
