CES 2012: Asus announces the 7-inch, quad-core MeMO Android tablet
Fire-fighter
The Kindle Fire still isn’t out on these shores, but there’s no denying that Android manufacturers across the globe are scrambling to bring out direct competitors to the device.
Asus is just one of many with an alternative up its sleeve, and the company took to the stage during Nvidia’s CES presentation in Las Vegas today to show off its attempt to knock Amazon from its perch, in the form of the dinky 7-inch MeMO.
The MeMO packs in both the latest version of Android (Ice Cream Sandwich), a 1280x800 resolution IPS display, and Nvidia’s latest Tegra 3 quad-core processor inside - faster than Amazon’s alternative dual-core offering.
Impressively, this power doesn’t come at a considerably cost. The MeMO will retail in the US for $249, making it just $50 more than the Kindle Fire.
We’ll see how well the MeMO fares when the tablet launches in the second quarter of 2012.
