App Army Assemble (again): ReRunners

Will the App Army re-run this game again and again?

App Army Assemble (again): ReRunners
|

Each week, we get early access to an exciting upcoming game and give it to a select few hardened mobile gaming experts that make up the App Army. We then feed these thoughts back to you, our audience, so you know whether it's worth your time or not. Gamer to gamer.

The second game we've looked at this week - that's right, a double whammy - is ReRunners, an MMO platform racing game. With an attractive design and plenty to do, the game is simple, silly, fast-paced fun.

You can read our review here, but what did the App Army think of it?

ReRunners has great potential but needs to have a few of its bugs fixed.

ReRunners could be the best online multiplayer racing game on iOS and Android. Of course it's 2D. The IAPs are totally optional. I have been playing it since Sunday and it's totally fun.

I will highly recommend this.

I like that it knows you. I don't like the IAPs, but so far they're not too intrusive and only cosmetic, so not too bad. The trouble is it's the same thing over and over again with different backgrounds.

It's not rubbish though.

It is playable for a bit and I do have the feeling that I want to go back to see what other talents I can unlock, although I do have a feeling this won't last too long.

I can see some people enjoying this game for a while and if the developers make things more interesting later on to keep players coming back I think it could last a lot of players a long while.

(After Rowan had some difficulty with it working)

I personally found the art really funky and pretty cool. The game-play was smooth, and when running against other players it definitely felt rewarding to win. It seems the runs are asynchronous (not 100% sure?) but it's still a nice feature.

Unfortunately I am not a fan of the IAP model. To be able to race you need 'Bolts' which obviously automatically refresh, but rather slowly (imo). It restricts the ability to actually play the game by having to either spend money on Bolts, watch an ad for Bolts, or just wait 8 minutes per Bolt. That is just annoying.

I am okay with the other IAPs in the game, i.e. to speed up upgrades, purchase items, or cosmetic stuff.
