The Apex Legends mobile port is still very much alive

EA confirms it's on track

The Apex Legends mobile port is still very much alive

Apex Legends has been a huge, unprecedented hit for EA. It was released with very little marketing hype back in February but quickly grew to have a player base of around 50 million. News of a mobile port was announced in May, though EA has been very quiet since then. That was until CEO Andrew Wilson recently revealed that it was still on track to be released on mobile.

Now if you're wondering if a battle royale can work on mobile you only need to look at Apex Legends' competitors. Fortnite and PUBG boast player counts in the hundreds of millions. It's undeniably popular stuff.

No release date has been given, so when can we possibly expect to see the launch of the mobile version? PUBG Mobile was released a mere three months after its PC counterpart whilst the iOS edition of Fortnite came out seven months after its initial launch, with an Android port following a short time later.

Now, of course, not all games run on the same engine, so it's never going to be the same timeframe. PUBG and Fortnite both make use of Unreal Engine 4 and Fortnite took longer to port, so there's a lot more going on behind the scenes in each case.

However, you can see that both developers were able to port their respective battle royales fairly quickly making it not unreasonable to speculate that we'll see Apex Legends mobile before the end of the year.

In the meantime, if you're unsure how well the intricacies of a battle royale would translate to mobile you can try Fortnite and PUGB which are both available for free on iOS and Android.
