Angel Stone is not your typical mobile action RPG. In fact, it's got a lot more in common with its console and PC brethren.

It's set in a post-apocalyptic universe in which all angels have been wiped out by the demonic hordes, which are threatening to do the very same to humanity. You play as a member of a group known as The Resistance, who also happen to be humanity's last line of defence.

You'll create your own character, choosing a class between the Gunslinger, Berserker, and Shadow Mage, before hacking and slashing your way through a bunch of different PvE and PvP modes - either alone or with friends.

Developing a fully-fledged cross-platform mobile action MMORPG isn't easy, and we wanted to learn more about how this was achieved so we reached out to developer Fincon to learn more.

Fincon previously worked on another mobile action RPG hit with Hello Hero, and recently placed in Facebook's 'Studios to Watch 2015' awards.

We spoke to Emilio Villarruel, Community Manager at developer Fincon, about what sets Angel Stone apart from similar mobile games, the challenges faced during development, and what we can expect from future updates. Read on.

What do you think Angel Stone offers that you can’t get from any other title on the App Store?

"For a start, Angel Stone genuinely appeals to hardcore RPG gamers.

"More often than not, gamers discount mobile titles as being a casual alternative to 'real' gaming.

"We don't believe in sacrificing content for form - and we haven't done so here. Angel Stone has great graphics and surprisingly in-depth gameplay to dig into."

What challenges did you face during development, and how did you overcome them?

"Angel Stone is massive and cross-platform, and it was rather difficult to ensure it was stable enough to allow for real-time PvP and co-op play while supporting interplay between iOS, Android, and Facebook canvas.

"There was no real magic bullet solution - we just had a very rigorous closed beta to stress test and then worked diligently to resolve the issues it revealed.

"Despite this being only our second title, we have a lot of veteran MMORPG developers on our team that are well equipped for challenges like this."

Which part of Angel Stone are you personally the most proud of and why?

"I would have to say it's just great to see the recognition we've received. Facebook recognized us as 2015's Game of the Year 'Studio to Watch' Winner and we placed as an Editor's Choice in the App Store.

"We're a pretty small company, and this recognition from huge names like Facebook and Apple proves we're doing something right."

Do you have anything planned in terms of future updates for Angel Stone and, if so, can you give us any details of what these might include?

"Actually, we're gearing up for a major update called 'Update 3.0'.

"You can expect some new game modes and skill systems, as well as quality of life upgrades like the much requested virtual pad support.

"Three years into service of our first title, Hello Hero, and we're still coming out with big updates, so you can expect the same level of dedication and more with Angel Stone."

Have you any plans to bring Angel Stone to any other platforms, such as Windows Phone or Steam?

"Right now we're focusing on service for iOS, Android, and Facebook Canvas.

"That being said, if there's a significant demand we're definitely open to expanding to other platforms or services.

"Last year we were one of the first to bring gaming to the Samsung Smart TV with Hello Hero, so who knows where Angel Stone can go."

Why should our readers play Angel Stone?

"This coming update is only the beginning - so if you're a fan of gritty hardcore action RPGs, now's the perfect time to check out Angel Stone!"

Angel Stone is available right now from the App Store, Google Play, or Facebook Canvas.
