Rumour: Google to release native Game Center-esque application for Android
|

According to Business Insider, "a source familiar with the plans" has revealed that Google is working on a Game Center-esque native Android application, which will allow the US-based company to compete in the fast-growing mobile games market.

This rumoured application - much like Apple's social gaming hub - will feature an achievement system that allows players to unlock trophies and awards for completing in-game tasks, as well as leaderboards and a friend finder.

It's unclear whether the friend finder feature will tap into the company's Google+ social network, but it does seem likely. The search giant is actively trying to tie all of its products closer together, after all.

"They are starting to really understand all of the needs and wants to make a game really successful. As recently as even a year ago, that really wasn't part of their institutional DNA, But I think they're getting there," Business Insider's source told the site.

According to the same source, Google will also fix its app store's payment system in order to make the buying process as smooth as it is on Apple's App Store. Android apps will also soon be available from Facebook's recently announced App Center, which will house iOS and web apps, too.
