Rumour: Android's new OS 'Ice Cream Sandwich' set for launch this summer
|

According to Pocket-lint, Google is set to release its new mobile operating system - Android 2.4 – some time in June or July.

Confirmed as Ice Cream Sandwich by Android Chief Andy Rubin, Google's new OS is expected to be formally announced at its San Francisco based IO conference, held in May.

The rumour stems from a prototype Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc device that was spotted at the recent CES event, supposedly running the unannounced OS.

If the rumours are true, Ice Cream will follow Google's alphabetised list of OS releases, which include Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, and Honeycomb.

No information regarding tweaks, upgrades, or new features is currently available.

There was vast speculation surrounding another of Google's OS updates – Honeycomb – until the subsequent confirmation that it was infact built entirely for tablets.

With Honeycomb's future seemingly absent from phones, at least for the short-term, will Ice Cream be filling the void? Thoughts below.
