Morally dubious Dog Wars game pulled from Android Market
Yanked the wrong chain
I do wonder sometimes what goes through people’s minds when they put apps like Dog Wars onto a mobile platform.
The game - which sees you raising dogs for the illegal practice of dog fighting - has been pulled from the Android Market after an outcry from gamers, celebrities (well, Alicia Silverstone), and convicted dogfighter turned head of The Humane Society Michael Vicks.
While arguments can be made against censoring a game that, for all intents and purposes, is just a Mafia Wars clone with dogs, the fact that it’s based itself on a straightforwardly inhumane activity has caused enough of a stir for the normally passive Google to step in and take it down.
However, the move does raise questions once again about what should and shouldn’t be permitted on the Android platform, and where the line should be drawn when it comes to potentially offensive content.
