Further to the news that Rovio appears to have launched a new character, possibly for a new game, more speculation has arisen.

Both in terms of the blond character and the mechanism in the background of Rovio's video, it's been pointed out that the images look very much like Casey's Contraptions HD, a highly rated (Pocket Gamer Gold Award winner), but not entirely smash hit iPad game released in 2011 by indie developer Snappy Touch.

Pop the balloon

Casey's Contraptions HD is a puzzle game in the style of Incredible Machine, supercharged with a level editor and puzzle-sharing features.

Building on that gameplay with more content and plugging it into Rovio's massive gaming audience would obviously make sense for the company, especially as it's long been rumoured that it was considering starting a publishing operation.

We also dropped a line to developer Noel Llopis, who declined to comment, saying "All I've been doing for the last few months is prototyping my next project."

So obviously, it's rumours at this stage, but more news as we get it.

UPDATE: Noel has just tweeted: "Before rumors start flying, Rovio is a perfect gentleman. Not a Zynga at all. Don't worry, all is well :-)"

And in case, you can see footage of Casey's Contraptions HD below.
