Spicy Horse's Akaneiro: Demon Hunters turns to Kickstarter while in Beta

American McGee's upcoming fairy tale fighter, Akaneiro: Demon Hunters launched a rather unconventional Kickstarter campaign on Friday.

While most games turn to Kickstarter to secure funds for development, Akaneiro: Demon Hunters has been running in closed beta since November 2012.

Unfortunately, the ambitious title aimed at a few too many platforms (Windows, OS X, iPad, and Android Tablet) and the project ran out of money before it could be completed.

If it can secure $200,000 in the next four weeks, Akaneiro: Demon Hunters will be released in "the most complete version".

Demonic contract

Akaneiro: Demon Hunters is an adaptation of Little Red Riding Hood set in Edo-era Japan that has players defending the Yomi village from the onslaught of the mythical yokai spirits.

While the game promises to offer players plenty of demon slaying action, McGee's Spicy Horse Studios attached a few stretch goals to its Kickstarter campaign that will bring even more content to the game's fans.

Two new expansion areas (Eye of Spite and The Yasha War) are planned as stretch goals, and they'll each include eight new areas and 24 new missions in addition to new enemies, bosses, and a raised level cap.

On top of those, there's also the possibility of a Linux version of the game, a PvP arena, and more gear to help your demon hunter slay in style.
