American McGee's Akaneiro: Demon Hunters hits its Kickstarter goal... just

Game Name: Akaneiro: Demon Hunters | Publisher: Spicy Horse Games | Format: Android, iPhone, iPad | Genre: RPG
It looks like American McGee's free-to-play feudal fairy tale Akaneiro: Demon Hunters will be making its way to iOS and Android, after all, having reached its Kickstarter target over the weekend.

Though the game had already been running in closed beta since November 2012, the Alice and Alice: Madness Returns creator ran out of funding for the action-RPG, prompting him to launch a Kickstarter appeal sum of $200,000.

As McGee explained on Akaneiro: Demon Hunters's funding page, this additional cash would free up developer Spicy Horse to work on a co-op multiplayer mode, an equipment crafting system, and - most importantly - the Android and iOS ports.

In the end, over 2,681 people backed the project, donating $204,680. PayPal donations are still being accepted.

Akaneiro: Demon Hunters draws cultural influence from both Western and Japanese folklore. The result is a dark, action-focused RPG, featuring a colourful cast of weird and wonderful creatures, and obvious nods to the Little Red Riding Hood fairy tale.

As well as defeating nasties in melee combat, you will need to ensnare your enemies by setting traps and using tricks.

The people have spoken

Despite the fact that Akaneiro: Demon Hunters didn't reach its stretch goals - one of which was to bring the game to the upcoming Ouya 'unconsole' - McGee is still considering working on a port for Ouya Inc.'s Android-powered games machine.

However, according to the ex-Quake dev, backers have requested that the Akaneiro: Demon Hunters team focus on adding crafting and co-op modes before they tackle the mobile versions.

According to the Akaneiro: Demon Hunters Kickstarter page, we can hope to see the game in closed beta on Android and iOS before the end of April.
