Challenging and distinctive hand-drawn action-platformer Aaru's Awakening is heading to iOS and Android
Nature of the beast
In this digital age, it's rare to see a game designer draw a scene by hand first and then 'colour it in' on a computer.
But that's what Lumenox Games has done to ensure that its 2D action-platformer Aaru's Awakening catches the eye.
In this forthcoming iOS and Android game, you will play as a beast called Aaru, who is sent by Dawn into Night's domain to restore balance to the world.
During your journey, you will venture through the distinctive territories of Dawn, Day, Dusk, and Night, all of which are full of strange fantasy creatures.
Some will help you, offering a ride across hot grounds or across a stretch of air. When you encounter the hostile ones, though, you'll need to make clever use of Aaru's teleportation and charge techniques to bypass them safely.
As shown in the playable PC demo version of the game, Aaru's Awakening will test your dexterity in each level, and will require complete mastery of the controls. It'll be interesting to see, then, how Lumenox adapts this control scheme for touchscreen devices.
We were prompted to ask Lumenox about the mobile ports of Aaru's Awakening after spotting a Facebook post in which the game is shown running on Nvidia's Shield.
"We got it running without any trouble in a few hours for the Shield. We just haven't started working on the touchscreen mechanics," Lumenox's Johann Ingi told us.
Aaru's Awakening won't be available on iOS and Android for quite a while, for the PC, Mac, and console versions are being prioritised.
Still, at least it's on your radar now, eh.
