Gold rush set city-building sim 1849 is an interesting looking mash up of ideas that's been on our radar for a while now, and we just found out that it's set to hit the App Store and the Google Play Store on May 8th.

The game is all about building a settlement in the midst of the push-and-shove scramble of the gold rush of the mid 19th century. You can read our hands-on preview with it right here to get a better idea of how it all works.

If you're lucky enough to live in Australia or New Zealand then the game is already available to you as part of Somasim's soft launch program, so if you fancy pulling up your britches and panning for gold, knock yourself out.

The rest of us are going to have to wait until the start of next month. If the soft launch price is anything to go by, the game will cost £1.99 / $2.99 for iPad and Android tablets when it hits on May 8th.
