Over the past few weeks and months, rumours have been circulating that Amazon is planning to launch a follow-up to its hugely successful Kindle Fire tablet.

Boy Genius Report, for example, reported last month that the retail giant will soon announce new 7- and 10-inch versions of its tablet - both of which will feature a "vastly improved" design.

Now, a source close to AllThingsD reckons that Amazon's next-generation slate will feature an in-built camera and a high-resolution 1280x800 display.

The 'Kindle Fire 2' will reportedly be unveiled in the coming months and launched in the third quarter of this year. According to CNET, a special launch event for the device will be held on July 31st.
