Alvin and the Chipmunks squeal their way onto DS

A few weeks ago we were reporting on a new game based on kids' classic cartoon George of the Jungle. Now it's the turn of another of our favourite Saturday morning cartoons of yesteryear, Alvin and the Chipmunks; a programme with a theme tune so catchy it drew seven-year-olds to it like hoards of zombies to a freshly dissected corpse.

The game is based on the Chipmunk family's most renowned talent – their musical ability – which encompasses being able to turn any popular tune into a mockery by singing it like Connie Talbot force-fed on helium.

Taking part in a battle of the bands event (the snappily named 'Rockathonapalooza'), it's your job to guide Alvin, Simon and Theodore to victory. This is done in the usual tried and tested rhythm-action way of hitting onscreen circles when the notes pass through them. Well, on Wii (version pictured) at least – publisher Eidos hasn't revealed if the DS version will be any different to this, though we don't see why it should be.

The game's 40-song tracklist includes classics such as 'All the Small Things', 'It's Tricky', 'Heartbreak Hotel' and 'Shiny Happy People' for you to tap along to.

Release date-wise, the game is scheduled for a November 30th appearance. And if the thought of Christmas day spent listening to the equivalent of an Elvis record at 78rpm sends your very soul into spasms, don't, whatever you do, pass this information on to your little sister.
