In the real world, take-off is supposedly the most dangerous element of flying, although it's usually the landing that has passengers the most nervous.

In the gaming world it's the other way around. All game concepts take off full of promise, but several soon hit turbulence and many more come crashing down. So when we found out last October an update of Sega's After Burner was scheduled to arrive on PSP, we feared for its safety.

Subsequent screenshots, the latest of which you'll find above, stabilised our anxiety somewhat, and now a trailer (click 'Watch It!' to download it) has further reassured us.

That's because from it we can see the classic fire-and-forget arcade mechanic of the original seems structurally intact.

On first viewing we did wonder about the speed of the action in some sections, which seemed sufficiently slow to potentially cause the experience to stall, but a quick look at the speed gauge on the left of the screen clearly showed there was plenty of power left to be deployed. Besides, that's the kind of thing you can only properly judge once you're playing.

And that's precisely what we hope to be doing soon, in order to bring you a review in time for the game's March landing.
