Halo companion app ATLAS for Windows Phone, iOS, and Android launches tomorrow

Having just launched an app that lets Xbox Live users monitor their accounts from a mobile, Microsoft has announced ATLAS, a portable assistant from 343 Industries for Windows Phone, iOS, and Android that offers Halo multiplayer fans an alternative perspective of their online activities.

Short for Assisted Tactical Assault Team, ATLAS is said to give Halo: Reach and Halo: Anniversary owners "near-real-time player data and tactical guidance".

In layman's terms, this translates to detailed multiplayer maps for Halo: Reach, weapon and vehicle spawn points for Matchmaking and Firefight games, as well as player, weapon, and vehicle locations in custom multiplayer games.

Still finishing the fight

343 Industries's Halo companion app also includes a 'Follow Me' mode that track your movements across maps (though Firefight maps are not supported), and a player list that displays the scores and weapon loadouts of you and your teammates.

Keen to reward Microsoft customers for their excellent taste in handsets, the Redmond-based software giant has made the ATLAS app a free download for Windows Phone users.

There's a sting in the tail for Android and iOS gamers, though, as they will have to part with the equivalent of $4.99 if they want to join in the voyeuristic fun.

ATLAS will reach online outlets tomorrow: December 10th.
