Miyamoto considers 3DS follow-up to A Link to the Past

Genre: Adventure, RPG
Late last year, we reported that Shigeru Miyamoto was toying with the idea of remaking his SNES RPG classic The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past for the 3DS.

It seems that the Nintendo legend may have had a slight change of heart, preferring instead to make a new game that would follow on from the 1991 original.

When asked whether A Link to the Past was still top of his remake wish list, Miyamoto told Edge, "I think the answer would be the same if we're talking about just porting."

"But," he continued, "I think I'd be even more interested in creating something new maybe based on, or starting from, A Link To The Past."

Tri-forcing the issue

Given the Japanese auteur's decision to take a step back from frontline development, he revealed that were a remake to go into production, he probably wouldn't be the man leading the project.

However, deciding which one of the current Nintendo directors would be best suited for the task would depend on his faith in the individual.

"To be very honest and open, it really depends on the directors that have time at the moment as well," Miyamoto explained.

"Some directors, I can give them the title and I know they will do something great with it.

"Other directors I'm not so 100 per cent confident [in], so they're the ones I'd rather take a more remake approach to the title."

A link to the future?

Judging by the quality of the 3DS port of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, we'd love to see what A Link to the Past would look like on Nintendo's newest handheld.

Of course, a belated sequel wouldn't be so bad, either.
