E3 2010: Super Street Fighter IV goes 3D on Nintendo's new handheld

What happens when you take a 2D fighting game with 3D visuals and bring it to the world's first portable 3D console? No, we're not sure either but we're going to find out soon enough now Nintendo have confirmed that Capcom are bringing Super Street Fighter IV to their impending 3DS handheld.

As with the majority of the 69 titles announced (and 1 not yet officially announced) by Nintendo during their pre-E3 2010 press conference there's not a great deal of detail beyond the screenshots you see here. Nevertheless it's undeniably another hugely encouraging sign about the level of third party support that's being provided both in terms of quality, quantity and diversity of genres.

What's more, we're hardly going to be sticking our necks out like Dhalsim to suggest that if it takes advantage of the 3D visuals and explosive animations, manages to put you that bit closer to the dragon-punching action and utilises the new analogue joypad, Super Street Fighter IV 3D could end up being the consoles definitive beat-em-up.
