The Game Bakers's underwater RPG Squids Odyssey is to be the first cross-buy title for Nintendo's Wii U and 3DS.

In Nintendo's eShop update today, it was revealed that Squids Odyssey would be available for the 3DS on July 3rd for €12.99 / £9.99.

Underneath that, a "Special Offer" for the game is revealed.

"If you downloaded Squids Odyssey on Nintendo 3DS, you can download Squids Odyssey from Nintendo eShop on Wii U for free!" it reads.

It also notes that the offer will only work if your Wii U and 3DS are linked with the same Nintendo Network ID.

It was only last week that we noted that Nintendo were gearing up to offer cross-buy and cross-play features for Wii U and 3DS games.

The obvious comparison for this service is PlayStation's own Cross-Buy offer between PS4, PS3, and Vita.

If Nintendo go with it, it'll allow you to purchase a digital game on either 3DS or Wii U, and not have to pay any extra to get it on the other platform.

This is what Nintendo has allowed to happen with Squids Odyssey. However, this might just be a one-off, or maybe it's an experiment.

Hopefully, this is just the start to a proper service that will be announced in the future. We'll let you know if and when we hear any more about it.
